It's been a long time since the last blog entry, and a lot has happened since then. The interior tile work is almost done, including floor and bathrooms. I am very pleased with the result of the terracotta herringbone tiles now covering the entire floor of the apartment and the courtyard (See new photos in the courtyard and groundfloor photo archieve).
"Walking the grounds now feel coherent and after having been subject to quotes from most architecture, do-over and home remodelling television, I can truely state that ,

“The uniform flooring gives great flow, but it flattens the personality of the home. We’ll keep the continuity but introduce texture and contrast so each space feels intentional."

...or something like that. The tiles are a bit more rustic than the original plan, but I am very happy with the result.

The bathrooms tile work are also almost done, and the new electric junction for the building is in place.
The junction and the attached new electric works is actually a seperate project (seperate contract sub-lease through constructor), but it is a very important part of the overall project. The new junction will allow for more power to be available for the building, and will also allow for more flexibility in the future. Such as seperate and shared billing on the groundfloor and firstfloor apartment.

In other news - a couple of weeks ago my constructor came to the realization that the project was going to be delayed and estimate new delivery for October (instead of the July deadline).
I had seen this coming for a while, and was neither surprised nor disappointed. The project has been going well, and I have been very happy with the work done so far. Also I think I am part of the delay, including asking for a custom countertop for the kitchen, centralized outdoor AC and seperate indoor units, and added requirements for door width and threshold height. All of which are important for the final result, but also add time to the project.
For the contructor, the delay is part of the indirect work that he can't force by throwing more manpower at it. The project is now in the final stages, and we are all waiting for deliverables: Custom kitchen countertop (and kitchen), bathroom mirrors, custom guardrail, custom doors and windows, electrics and intercom, bathroom fixtures and porcelain and last (and least) the A/C system, that I am now starting to wonder was a mistake*.
*Having had my first experience of living in the Algarve in the attic apartment, I can now say that, that experience was not representative of the indor climate for the rest of the house. Yes, it was could in winter and how in summer, but this does not carry to the first floor nor groundfloor apartments
Secondly - I don't like A/C and I think it is a cultural phenomenon. E.g. when I go to school here, I can see the former US-based students and teachers, love the A/C, whereas the rest of us would rather have shade and the windows open. Anyway - I might change my mind coming into my first winter in the new apartment, where I could use it to raise the temperatur in the apartment a few degrees.
